monkeying around mumbai

monkeying around mumbai

Elephanta Island, a one-hour ferry from Mumbai Harbour, houses a labyrinth of rock-cut cave temples dedicated to the Hindu god Shiva. He's carved here with three heads, as the destroyer, creator and preserver of the universe. There are no elephants on Elephanta Island, but the caves are patrolled by some very sassy monkeys.

Thank you to @anujabomajoshi and @ankurratheeofficial for showing me the glitzy and gritty sides of this fascinating city. It was so special to see Mumbai from the eyes of these soon-to-be stars.
